Vendor Notebook: Practice Fusion brings social media to its EMR

Practice Fusion has launched a HIPAA-compliant messaging feature within its EMR to enable physicians, nurses and medical providers to communicate with colleagues outside their practices. Officials say the service replicates intuitive social media-style messaging to improve medical collaboration and ensure the continuity of patient care.
GE Healthcare announced it has received FDA clearance of Q.Freeze, one of the PET/CT quantitative imaging technologies designed to enable treatment evaluation earlier in a patient’s cancer treatment. Q.Freeze combines the quantitative benefits of 4D phase-matched PET/CT imaging, MotionMatch, into a single static image.

Crowell Systems and nSpire Health have announced a bi-directional interface connecting patient electronic records to pulmonary lung testing equipment. This interface is a valuable tool for allergy and asthma doctors, officials say. All of the information generated from the spirometer each time the patient is tested is now stored into Medformix. The historic results are graphed to illustrate the patient’s trending over time.
NextGen announced an agreement with Minnesota Eye Consultants to deploy NextGen Ambulatory EHR and NextGen Practice Management across its enterprise. The ophthalmology group joins a growing number of eye clinics currently served by NextGen Healthcare, including more than 500 ophthalmology practices nationwide, representing more than 52 percent of the market.
