Vendor Notebook: Equifax brings Gemalto security to New York HIE

Gemalto announced it will provide multi-factor authentication one-time password tokens to Equifax. The security devices, based on Open Authentication (OATH), are part of Gemalto’s Protiva Medsecure solution and will be packaged within Equifax’s Anakam Identity Services. The first implementation of this system is for HEALTHeLINK, a collaboration among providers in western New York State to securely share medical and clinical information electronically.
Infor announced that St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, has selected Infor to help streamline the organization’s financial and operational processes in order to provide more relevant and timely information to all levels of management. Infor has also announced the availability of Infor EAM Healthcare Edition, an ION-enabled application that combines asset management capabilities, features for improving operations and performance, and modules to help ensure the best fit for the asset management needs of organizations in the healthcare industry.
Rex Healthcare, an affiliate of UNC Health Care, is expanding its relationship with Passport Health Communications to take advantage of Passport’s newest revenue cycle solutions and services. The private, not-for-profit system will use Passport’s eCare NEXT solution to automate front end workflow, including insurance eligibility and demographic verification, pre-certification, patient registration quality, and patient payment estimation.
PureWellness announced the release of HL7 standards-based Continuity of Care Documents (CCD) for health information exchange between the PureWellness solution and CCD-supported Electronic Health Records. The new CCD integration enables members and health coaches to synchronize and share lifestyle, behavior, and risk information with care providers and their associated data networks.
Pulse announced it has achieved Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) Qualified Registry status. PQRS is a voluntary individual reporting program that provides an incentive payment to eligible professionals (EPs) who report data on quality measures for covered Physician Fee Schedule (PFS) services. EPs who do not participate in PQRS in 2013 will face a 1.5 percent payment reduction from Medicare beginning in 2015.
Zix Corporation announced that Bayhealth Medical Center has selected ZixCorp Email Encryption Services to replace its previous email encryption solution. By switching to ZixCorp, Bayhealth can better achieve patient privacy in email, protect the organization from data breaches and facilitate compliance with HIPAA, officials say.
Phytel announced that Hillcrest HealthCare System, a network of six hospitals and 49 clinics in northeast Oklahoma, has selected Phytel to help its physician group execute its population health management strategy. HHS will deploy Phytel Outreach to 100 primary care physicians – nearly half of the 195 providers at Utica Park Clinic – to ensure that their patients receive recommended preventive and chronic care.
MedAptus announced that Cornerstone Health Care, in central North Carolina, has selected the company’s Pro Charge Capture solution to streamline inpatient coding and billing activities. The first users of MedAptus at Cornerstone will be hospitalists, who are seeking re-engineer paper-based processes supporting both charge capture and sign-out, well in advance of the ICD-10 changeover.
McKesson announced that St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange, Texas, went live on McKesson’s Paragon hospital information system (HIS), completely transitioning off a legacy HIS just 14 months after contract signing. With clinicians already giving up paper for electronic records, the medical center began its 90-day reporting period for Stage 1 meaningful use within a week of go-live. McKesson also announced the launch of its new RFID) cabinets, offering hospitals a powerful tool for managing expensive physician preference items (PPIs) such as stents, pacemakers, implants and orthopedic supplies.
Craneware announced that it has achieved Electronic Submission of Medical Documentation (esMD) certification from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS.) With this certification, Craneware is now authorized to offer esMD gateway services to provider organizations to enable the electronic submission of medical records to review contractors, officials say.
Passport Health Communications announced a new partnership with Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, S.C. The 414-bed hospital, which also includes an extensive network of physician practices, the largest nursing home in the Carolinas and two Occupational Health facilities, will implement several Passport solutions for insurance eligibility and patient address verification, coverage discovery and patient payment estimation, officials say.
Geriatric Practice Management has introduced what it bills as the first ONC-ATCB meaningful use-certified electronic health record (EHR) designed exclusively for physicians working in the long-term care environment. Called gEHRiMed, the EHR was created by LTC physicians and developers to meet the unique patient management, charting, reporting and billing needs of providers practicing medicine in long-term care facilities.

With the addition of WaveTwo, All Covered expands its healthcare market presence, which is a key component of Konica Minolta’s EnvisionIT Healthcare solution offering, officials say.
Welch Allyn announced its facility in Beaverton, Ore., has received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certification for Existing Buildings from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The company recently completed a three-year, $500,000 capital improvement project at its facility with the help of property manager PS Business Parks.
Leica Biosystems announced that an affiliate has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Aperio, a provider of ePathology solutions. Aperio will be integrated into Leica Biosystems, a developer in anatomical pathology solutions. Together, the two businesses will leverage each other’s strengths to grow and expand digital pathology into the global Life Science and Healthcare markets, officials say.
