Maine’s HealthInfoNet to build statewide data warehouse and reporting platform

December 13, 2012 in Medical Technology

HealthInfoNet, Maine’s statewide health information exchange (HIE) has announced plans to create a data warehouse and reporting platform, and to pilot the linkage between the clinical data contained in the HIE and Maine’s statewide all-payer claims database.

HealthInfoNet has signed a three-year agreement with Burlington, Mass.-based Arcadia Solutions for the project, enlisting its analytics and quality data warehouse technology for the project. The ultimate goal, officials say, is to give Maine’s healthcare community access to integrated clinical and claims data to support new payment models, such as accountable care organizations and share savings contracts.

The first step in the project will be to support current clinical data reporting, now directly from the HIE, for the Bangor Beacon Community.

HealthInfoNet contains records for more than 1.1 million of Maine’s 1.3 million people and has more than 6,000 registered clinical users. Thirty of the Pine Tree State’s 39 hospitals and 300 of its physician practices are connected to the HIE. HealthInfoNet anticipates all of Maine’s hospitals and a majority of Maine’s physician practices will be participating by 2015, officials say.

“By creating a data warehouse for the HIE we will be able to better support our providers’ data needs as they advance broader care management and delivery systems reform efforts,” said Devore Culver, executive director and CEO of HealthInfoNet. “Down the road, combining the clinical information stored in the statewide HIE with associated cost information, we hope to give providers cost, quality and patient outcomes data in one view.”

“HealthInfoNet is one of the most successful HIEs in the country and that’s due in large part to its success in connecting the majority of Maine’s hospitals and clinical practices, as well as its true understanding of provider workflow and adoption,” said Michael Gleeson, vice president of quality Improvement and analytics at Arcadia Solutions. “I’m proud to be taking the next steps with HealthInfoNet to help it build reporting capabilities that are critical to its success.”
