Buyer’s Guide site has new name

Anyone looking for an exhibitor through the HIMSS Online Buyer’s Guide will have a hard time finding what they are looking for. That’s because the longtime name has been changed to the Conference Exhibitor Guide.

But just because it has a new moniker, the functionality is as robust as ever, said Ward Seward, HIMSS senior designer for web services. While HIMSS13 web site users can find basic information about exhibitors from the home page, more specific information about each company is available through the Conference Exhibitor Guide by clicking on the blue button that corresponds with the first letter of the company name. That profile provides the vendor’s booth number, key contact name and e-mail address, phone number and description of the company’s products and services.

As for other online services, the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center is well equipped with wireless capabilities for all electronic devices, so attendees can surf the web, check e-mails, download speaker handouts, access Twitter and Facebook and take advantage of other communications capabilities.

Attendees can put together their own HIMSS13 schedules through the web site’s My Agenda function, which enables users to build their own personal calendar and modify or reference it at any time. The calendar is also designed to automatically note any changes to events, such as a room change or cancellation.

As a resource, the HIMSS13 site is laid out to be searched by location, exhibitor and session. To get the most relevant personal information, attendees can punch in their job title in the “I Am A” section, in which the site recommends specific programs related to each profession, such as educational sessions, pre-conference programs, networking opportunities and specialty events.

The Exhibitor-Hosted Events portal lists hundreds of events that exhibitors and sponsors are hosting, from booth raffles on the show floor to receptions around the convention center and nearby hotels.

Social Media also has a more prominent profile at HIMSS13, as Seward and colleagues Cari McLean and Michael Gaspar will be on hand at the HIMSS Social Media Center to answer questions and discuss various social media strategies. The team will be located in a highly visible open area of the convention center’s main lobby.

Finally, HIMSS has pages on Facebook and Linked In and can be found at #HIMSS13 on Twitter. Many of the top HIMSS executives have their own individual Twitter accounts as well. For Twitter fans, the HIMSS social media team will be organizing Tweet Up get-togethers during the show.
