Safeway offers checkup with groceries

SoloHealth and Safeway have announced a partnership that will allow shoppers at some of the national food and drug retailer’s locations to add a health and wellness checkup to their shopping list.

The Atlanta-based developer of the SoloHealth Station, found in some 2,500 retail locations around the United States, will be setting up kiosks in almost 700 of Safeway’s 1,644 stores this April, moving SoloHealth closer to its goal of more than 4,000 locations by 2014.

“Safeway shares our commitment of empowering consumers to take charge of their health,” said Stephen Kendig, chief commercial officer and executive vice president of SoloHealth, in a press release.  “We believe that access, awareness and education are keys to a healthy lifestyle, and we’re bringing comprehensive health and wellness services directly to Safeway’s customers. We look forward to working closely with Safeway to ensure we are always offering the most valuable tools that can lead to healthier and happier lifestyles for their growing customer base.”

The bilingual kiosks offer a free and private screening platform for vision, blood pressure, weight and body mass index, as well as a symptom checker and overall health assessment. Company officials say more than 10 million people have used the kiosk, with an average interaction time of 4.5 minutes.

Last October, the company added digital advertising to its kiosks, and has partnerships with Johnson Johnson, PG, Pfizer, Bayer, Hallmark and the Coca-Cola Company. The company also has deals in place with CoinStar, Dell and WellPoint, one of the nation’s largest health benefits companies.

By investing in SoloHealth we are excited to help millions of Americans better manage their own health and well-being.”
