Emory-Adventist joins Stage 7 elite
June 24, 2013 in Medical Technology
Emory-Adventist Hospital, a joint venture with Emory Healthcare, located in Smyrna, Ga., has received the acute care Stage 7 award.
The award represents attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model, which is used to track EMR progress at hospitals and health systems. HIMSS Analytics developed the model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database. There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology applications.

The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment.
The validation process to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers and a current of former chief medical information officer to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the Stage 7 environments.
The hospital will be recognized at the 2014 Annual HIMSS Conference Exhibition on Feb. 24-26, 2014, in Orlando, Fla. As of May 31, 2013, 115 U.S. hospitals, or 2.1 percent, of the more than 5,400 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics Database, have received the HIMSS Analytics Stage 7 Award.
“Patient safety is Emory-Adventist Hospital’s highest priority,” said Dennis Kiley, president and CEO of Emory-Adventist Hospital, in a news release. “This designation affirms that we are fully using information technology to protect our patients through our use of electronic medical records. We are proud to join the elite few who have achieved HIMMS Stage 7 Award.”
Emory-Adventist Hospital is a non-profit community hospital operated by Adventist Health System as a joint venture with Emory Healthcare.
“We are very pleased that another hospital in the Adventist group has earned the Stage 7 criteria,” added John Hoyt, executive vice president, HIMSS Analytics, in a press statement. “Adventist Health System is one of the largest healthcare systems in the U.S. with advanced EMR capabilities enabled by a comprehensive private health information exchange throughout its system.”
