Last week, we pointed to a report heralding last year as the biggest year on record for digital health investment, but what about the year ahead?
According to Malay Gandhi, the managing director of the company that produced the study, five trends stand out. Among them: Telehealth/Telemedicine: the fastest growing category in digital health last year, Gandhi expects that growth to continue, though issues related to licensure and reimbursement will likely continue to be a drag.
“There are still no federal telemedicine standards in the U.S despite the more than 40 telehealth-related bills in Congress.” Also in the top five are technologies that will help administrators continue to find ways to reduce costs in order to relieve pressures on the bottom line.
Rounding out the list, digital therapies: “From mental health services to disease management interventions, digital therapies could gain a lot of traction as population health management and reimbursement shadow fee-for-service models.”
