Following the devastating tornado of May 22, 2011, which shattered the city of Joplin, MO, a new hospital has risen from the wreckage, with its official opening to be this coming May 22nd. And the hospital’s management reportedly hasn’t wasted the opportunity to make the new hospital, part of a larger health system, a state-of-the-art telemedicine facility.

Among the featured programs will be Tele-ICU, dubbed “Mercy SafeWatch,” which will enable round-the-clock monitoring of about 500 beds in 15 hospitals across five states, and; Telestroke – “one of the first and most successful implementations of telemedicine, telestroke services are being offered at hospitals across the country to connect patients experiencing strokes with neurologists hundreds of miles distant who can administer a potentially life-saving drug within minutes.”
