April proved to be a good month for healthcare jobs, after the industry added more than double the jobs seen for March, signifying the largest gain in months.
The industry added 45,000 jobs in April, up from the just 22,000 jobs added in March, which had marked the lowest growth in months. The gains were due in large part to big growth in ambulatory center hiring, according to data from the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Healthcare has added 390,000 jobs in the past year, the Labor Department said. In healthcare, ambulatory services added 25,300 jobs this past month. Hospitals added 11,800 jobs; nursing care facilities added 10,400, and physician offices saw 9,300 jobs.
